European Union Adds U.S. to Its Safe Travel List

On June 16, European Union countries agreed to add the United States to the list of countries considered to not be coronavirus threat, whose citizens are thereby permitted non-essential travel to Europe.

 

 

Prime Minister Kaja Kallas Survives No-Confidence Vote

A no-confidence motion against prime minister Kaja Kallas failed to pass in the Riigikogu on the evening of June 16. 36 members of the Riigikogu voted in favor of the no-confidence vote and 55 against in the 101-seat chamber.

 

 

Estonian State to Continue to Support Estonian Media Abroad

On June 10, Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets and Anneli Roosalu, Director of the National Foundation of Civil Society, signed an agreement to implement a second support program for publications of Estonian communities abroad.

 

 

Henessi Schmidt Acting in New Netflix Series "Vikings: Valhalla"

There are two Estonian actors participating in the new Netflix series "Vikings: Valhalla". Pääru Oja is playing the character Arne Gormsson, who will feature in over ten of the series' twenty-four episodes. How many episodes Henessi Schmidt will have screen time in remains to be seen.

 

 

XIII World Congress of Finno-Ugric Peoples in Tartu

The eighth World Congress of Finno-Ugric Peoples is taking place in Tartu this week, but the majority of representatives will attend remotely online due to the coronavirus pandemic.

 

The congress is taking place at the Estonian National Museum and representatives of 14 Finno-Ugric peoples are expected to attend.

 

Of the 127 delegates scheduled to speak, more than half will do so remotely.
