116-Year-Old June Heat Record Broken

A June temperature record, which had stood for over a century, was broken twice in Estonia on Victory Day, Wednesday, June 23. 34.1°C was recorded in Kunda, breaking the previous 34.0°C record high for the month from June 18, 1905 in Tartu.

A mere few hours later, a reading of 34.6°C in Narva broke the monthly record once again.

Estonia's all-time high temperature since record-keeping began is 35.6°C, posted on August 11, 1992 in Võru.

Victory Day Parade Held in Paide

This year's Victory Day parade took place in the central Estonian town of Paide with close to 800 people participating.

The majority of participants were members of the Defense League and their women's (Naiskodukaitse), girls' (Kodutütred) and boys' (Noored Kotkad) units, primarily from the northeast of the country.

British and French NATO personnel from the Enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup based at Tapa also took part, and a fly-by was performed by the British Royal Air Force Aerobatic team, the Red Arrows, who later performed a flight show in the skies above Tallinn.
