Outgoing President Kaljulaid on Official Visit to Kenya


President Kersti Kaljulaid started a state visit to Kenya on September 9, which will be the last state visit of her term of office, which ends next month.

 

Business diplomacy and improving Estonian companies' interests in Africa will be at the centre of the visit, a theme which Kaljulaid has focused on a lot during her presidency.

 

According to the president's office, the visit is also the first official visit of an Estonian head of state to an African nation. During her 5-year term of office, Kaljulaid has carried out six official state visits: to Finland, Croatia, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia and Kuwait.

 

Before Alar Karis is sworn in on October 11, Kaljulaid will also visit Sweden, Germany and Italy and participate in the UN General Assembly.

 

 

Registration Started for the XIII Youth Song and Dance Festival "Sacred Land"


As of September 6, choirs and dance groups began registering for the 2023 youth song and dance celebration.

 

The guiding principle and visual identity of the 13th youth song and dance festival "Püha on maa", “Sacred (is the) Land” will be introduced to group leaders in more detail at the Terepäevad, Hello Days, which will take place in different locations all over Estonia during the month of September.

 

The youth song and dance celebration will take place from June 30 to July 2, 2023, one year later than originally planned.

 

 

Minister of Finance: Economic Growth Will Prevent Larger Cuts


The finance ministry predicts Estonia's economy will grow by 9.5 percent this year and by 4 percent in 2022.

 

Speaking at a press conference on September 9, announcing the ministry's summer economic forecast, finance minister Keit Pentus-Rosimannus said "the economy has recovered at a rapid pace, and we are largely back to pre-crisis levels", while the coronavirus crisis has benefited some sectors while harming others.
