The official opening of the “un/mute” physical exhibition at the Austrian Cultural Forum New York was on September 23.

Estonia and Lithuania are proud to have been the ones who planted the seed for the idea of un/mute projects in the spring of 2020.

 

The opening was attended by Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Eva-Maria Liimets, Estonian Consul General Ms. Kairi Künka, Estonian Cultural Coordinator Ms. Jaanika Peerna, artist Ms. Terttu Uibopuu and many friends of Estonian culture.

Co-curated by Daina Mattis & Melinda Wang, “un/mute” is the physical manifestation of online conversations among strangers who became colla-borators.

 

What began as abstract, ephemeral and digital are now 14 tactile, analog and concrete artworks presented across two locations: Austrian Cultural Forum New York and Undercurrent.  

“un/mute” is a project by Undercurrent and the following members of EUNIC New York: Austrian Cultural Forum New York, Czech Center New York, the Consulate General of Estonia in New York, Flanders in the USA, Goethe-Institut New York, Lietuvos kultūros institutas / Lithuanian Culture Institute, Arts Council Malta, the Polish Cultural Institute New York and the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York / ICR New York.

 

This project is also supported by EU National Institutes for Culture, the European Union Mission to the United Nations, Hope Recycling Station and the Jindrich Chalupecky Society.
