40 kikuThe Broward County Council of Chamber, in Florida, bestowed upon Kiku Martinson, Director of Real Estate at Campbell & Rosemurgy, the Deerfield Beach 2013 Small Business Person of the Year award.

As a longtime resident, Kiku Martinson has put a lot of time and energy into Deerfield Beach where she has built a wonderful life for 34 years. But it was still a surprise and a thrill when the Broward County Council of Chambers honored her for her outstanding career and community service. Naming her Deerfield Beach Small Business Person of 2013 was no surprise to those who have worked and volunteered with her.

Kiku was born in America, spoke Estonian at home and married an Estonian Märt Martinson. They have raised a son and a daughter in the community, both of whom have graduated from college and are enjoying the challenges of their careers. They are all bilingual, as the family keeps the Estonian language alive at home.

Kiku has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters degree in education from Florida Atlantic University.

She began her career as a sales associate with her present company back in 1987 and soon was a top producer. Building on her success, she became a certified Residential Specialist in 1991. Kiku Martinson is now the director of the Real Estate Division for two of the three Campbell & Rosemurgy offices; in Boca Raton and Deerfield Beach. She is responsible for administering and implementing the company’s policies, establishing budgets, formulating advertising plans, supervising associates and recruiting and training new associates. The company is still family owned and run by the second and third generation of both families, the Campbells and the Rosemurgys. In addition to this successful real estate company with offices in Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach and Boca Raton, they also own a successful property management division.
Campbell & Rosemurgy is a full service company and with its mortgage brokerage division, Hometown Title and Howard Grace & Associates, it can handle all aspects of a sale or purchase for its clients. Besides Kiku’s dedication and professionalism, her bilingual fluency, and that of her nephew, Broker Associate Torm Martinson, who also works currently at Campbell & Rosemurgy, have benefited the company, as both of them have been able to attract and serve Estonian-speaking clients from Canada, Estonia proper and elsewhere. Kiku’s advice for property sellers/buyers is to find a realtor whom you can trust and then listen.
In addition to her Real Estate career, the health and success of her community has always been a priority with Kiku. She has served the City of Deerfield Beach as a member and eventually chair of the city’s Code Enforcement Board and has sat as an alternate member of the Board of Adjustments. As an active member of the Chamber of Commerce since 1987, she has served as President and is currently the Event Chairperson. With a winning smile, she says the 2013 Annual Gala was a huge success; proceeds benefited the International Society of Autism which is also located in Deerfield Beach. Next year’s Gala with a Mardi Gras theme, which will take place on March 8, 2014, is already in the works.
Kiku is also very proud to have launched the Women in Business group that meets the second Wednesday of every month at the Chamber. It’s a great place to exchange ideas, network and get support in a world where women are making great progress and facing new challenges.
Another feather in her cap that Kiku shares with Jim Mathie, is the forming of a committee to promote Deerfield Beach as a nautical destination. Holding up a handsome nautical map and Visitors Guide, she says: “We are raising awareness of our City’s nautical attractions in order to become a specific destination for visitors and new business.”
