Taavi Kaups Awarded First Class Medal of the Order of the White Rose of Finland
The President of the Republic of Finland awarded Taavi Kaups with the First Class Medal of the Order of the White Rose of Finland on April 27, 2021.
Taavi Kaups (pictured, with his wife Ester) fought in the Finnish Continuation War in the ranks of the Finnish Infantry Regiment 200 as an Estonian volunteer in 1943–1944.
More than 3,300 Estonian volunteers fought on the Finnish fronts during the Continuation War years (1941–1944).

WTC Greek Orthodox Church Opens With Work by Pärt
This fall, Arvo Pärt's a cappella choral work "O Holy Saint Nicholas" will be premiered in New York City.
The work will open the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine at the World Trade Center site.

JBANC 60th Anniversary Forum on April 28
The Joint Baltic American National Committee (JBANC), commemorated its 60th anniversary by organizing an online forum on April 28 to discuss “The U.S.-Baltic Relationship: Parliamentary Perspectives.”
The discussion focused on transatlantic relationships, the upcoming NATO Summit, cooperation between the Baltic parliaments and the U.S. Congress, and JBANC's work.
The event featured leading representatives of the foreign affairs committees of the parliaments of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania: Ojārs Kalniņš, Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Latvian Parliament; Eerik-Niiles Kross, Member of Estonian Parliament; and Emanuelis Zingeris, Member of Lithuanian Parliament.

Foreign Ministry Summons Russian Ambassador
The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Estonia, Aleksander Petrov, on May 6 to protest and hand over a diplomatic note concerning a violation of the Estonian air border on May 5, when a Russian Federation plane passed through Estonian airspace.
The plane, an Ilyushin Il-96 airliner, was in Estonian airspace for around a minute.

Central and East European Coalition Policy Discussion Highlights Regional Challenges
The Estonian American National Council (EANC), as a member of the Central and East European Coalition (CEEC), recently took part in hosting a virtual panel discussion event featuring prominent experts on transatlantic security.
The event highlighted issues facing NATO ahead of the 2021 NATO summit and consisted of two panels.

Peter Kopperman and Karin Shuey of The Washington Estonian Society hosted an enlightening and entertaining virtual presentation on the “Making of Singing Revolution: The Musical” on Sunday evening April 25, 2021.
Creator Tony Spinosa, a veteran Broadway director and choreographer, shares how he spent five years researching the actual events that occurred in Estonia from 1987-1991, and then developed it into an American Musical for the stage.

New U.S. Trends Important For Estonian Economy
A grand shift in thought patterns is taking place in the U.S. following the change of administration the importance of which for the Estonian economy cannot be overestimated, James York, Enterprise Estonia export adviser in the U.S., writes in an opinion piece at ERR News.
U.S. imports were down 6 percent last year, while Estonian export to the U.S. grew by 15.5 percent to €1.123 billion.
