On June 16, European Union countries agreed to add the United States to the list of countries considered to not be coronavirus threat, whose citizens are thereby permitted non-essential travel to Europe.

EANC Letter to the White House Urges Tougher Policies Toward Russia
Recent events posing threats to European and U.S. security, and the upcoming meeting on June 16th bet-ween Presidents Biden and Putin, are the impetus for the June 3rd letter from Estonian American National Council (EANC) President Marju Rink-Abel to President Biden.
It supports two May letters from the Central and East European Coalition (CEEC) to the White House expressing similar concerns and requesting a meeting with senior Administration officials.

Häly Laasme Nominated for the Sister Pat Kelley Achievement Award
Häly Laasme
On June 4, 2021, the United States National Energy and Utility Affordability Coalition (NEUAC) announced the final nominees for the Sister Pat Kelley Achievement Award. Häly Laasme, the State of Delaware's Energy Assistance Director, is one of the three finalists.
The award recognizes a person with exemplary achievement in furthering NEUAC's objectives of increasing public awareness of low-income energy problems, advancing energy assistance policy and promoting charitable energy assistance.
Häly serves as the Northeast Regional Representative in the Board of Directors of the National Energy Assistance Director’s Association (NEADA) for Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
She also serves in the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Energy Services Coalition (ESC), and in the Advisory Board of Directors of the NEUAC.

80 Years Since the June 1941 Deportations
June 14 marks the 80th anniversary of the horrific days in June of 1941 when more than 10,000 people were forcibly deported from Estonia to Siberia.
The Estonian National Museum (ERM) in Tartu will commemorate the event on Sunday, June 13 at 1 pm Estonian time with a live online broadcast from the museum.

New Podcasts Look Back at Estonia's Regained Freedom
Two new podcasts look back at the late 80's and early 90's, and the events surrounding the fall of the Soviet Union and Estonia regaining its independence.
Vermont Public Radio's podcast series "Timeline" presented a four-part series on Estonia's Singing Revolution earlier this year “Timeline: The Singing Revolution” (in English).
Vikerraadio's long-running series “Eesti lugu” is producing a special miniseries entitled "Äratulek," which paints a picture of cultural and political circumstances in the late Soviet years, as well as in depth looks at the events of the independence period with scholars and pivotal figures (in Estonian).

Free Estonian Language Summer Course Registration Opens on June 3
Registration for free Estonian language summer courses run by the Integration Foundation will open on June 3.
There will be 176 spaces and courses will take place in Tallinn, Kohtla Järve's Ahtme district, Jõhvi, and Narva at the A1, A2, B1 and B2 level.
You can register at www.integratsioon.ee and those who sign up must be over 18 years of age. An Estonian ID card, Mobile-ID or Smart-ID is needed to register.

EADF International Discovery Award Applications Opened
EADF Seeks Creative Invention in Culture, Science, Humanities
The Estonian American Discovery Foundation (EADF) has opened applications for the 2021 EADF Discovery Awards, dedicated to supporting discovery and invention in culture, science, humanities and history by Baltic and/or Baltic heritage artists, filmmakers, performers, scientists, researchers, educators and inventors of all kinds.
Three (3) awards will be awarded to three applicants annually in the amount of $1000, $500, and $350.
