Celebrating Thirty Years of Re-independence for the Baltic States at the Estonian Land, Andover, CT
On August 21st, we are celebrating 30 years of re-independence and freedom for the Baltic States!
At the Estonian Land, 25 Times Farms Road, Andover, CT 06232.
We will also celebrate the anniversary of the Baltic Way demonstration by singing the Baltic Way Anthem - Wake Up Baltic States in all three languages.
Lyrics in all three languages will be provided as well as in English.

EANC Is Visible Supporter at Demonstration During Belarusian Leader’s U.S. Visit
CEEC representatives and friends at the Sunday rally.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, leader of the democratic opposition in Belarus, recently made her first working visit to Washington to meet with government officials and the diaspora community.
She spent the week of July 18-24 in DC, then made visits to New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles the following week.
Mrs. Tsikhanouskaya’s first public event in DC was a lengthy appearance at a rally on Freedom Plaza near the White House on Sunday, July 18th.

Martens Summer School in International Law Drew Record Attendance

Held July 26 - July 30 via Zoom, this year’s summer school drew record attendance.
Thirty-eight attendees — 50 percent more than the usual in-person attendance in Pärnu – from universities in 25 countries explored “ The Law of the Sea and Polar Regions,” “The Fundamentals of Investor-State Arbitration”, ”Landmarks in the recent case law of the European Court of Human Rights,” and ”The prohibition of torture in international human rights law.”
A distinguished faculty included Judge Julia Motoc of the European Court of Human Rights, professors Alex G. Oude Eiferink of Utrecht University (Holland); Mykola Gnatovsky, Taras Shevchenko National University (Ukraine); Martins Paparinskis, University College (London, UK) and Alexander Lott, Tartu University School of Law, gave the Martins Annual Lecture.

Hindus Urge Estonian National Opera to Drop Culturally Insensitive Ballet “La Bayadère”

Hindus are urging the prestigious Estonian National Opera (Rahvusooper Estonia) in Tallinn to withdraw the ballet “La Bayadère”; scheduled for April 09-June 11, 2022; which they feel seriously trivializes Eastern religious and other traditions.
In a statement in Nevada (USA) on August 2, Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, said that the Estonian National Opera (ENO) should not be in the business of callously promoting appropriation of the traditions, elements and concepts of “others”; and ridiculing entire communities.

Celebrations Marking 30 Years of Re-Independence – Take Part Online

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas was in Washington, DC on July 13th and 14th for meetings with Members of Congress to discuss the Baltic Security Initiative and other issues relating to U.S.-Estonia security cooperation.
Karin Shuey, Estonian American National Council (EANC) Washington, DC Director, and her colleagues at the Joint Baltic American National Council (JBANC), have been meeting with the same offices to reinforce the Prime Minister’s message from the perspective of Baltic American voters.

Small peoples (take for example my own Estonian identity group) face some issues that set them somewhat apart from the matters that concern larger nations.
Not only do we have less people who attain prominence internationally, but often our great sons and daughters are little known to the rest of the world, and sometimes undeservedly so.
