Septembris saabub märkimisväärne tähtpäev, saatuslik päev kõikidele isikutele ja peredele, kes siia mandrile saabusid selle tagajärjel – 70 aasta tagasi põgeneti Eestist Nõukogude agressiooni ja terrori eest.  Arvati, et see oli ajutine lahkumine ja sõja lõppedes saab tagasi koju minna, kuid see ei osutunud õigeks. Saatus hoopis määras teisiti.  Eemal olek kestis aastakümneid.

JBANC Discuss Sochi Issues With Circassian Activists In First Online Google+ Hangout

(Washington, DC) – Circassian-American activists, who trace their roots to the Sochi region in the North Caucasus, participated on February 6 in the first-ever Google+ Hangout organized and hosted online by the Joint Baltic American National Committee, Inc. (JBANC).
 
On the eve of the official opening of the Sochi Olympic Games, there has been much criticism of Russia’s handling of events in the lead-up to the Games, including security concerns, Moscow's clampdown on human rights, environmental disasters-in-the-making, cost and corruption, and quality of construction.

One of the competing narratives has been the story of the native inhabitants of the Sochi region - the Circassians. They have suffered under Russian Tsars, communists, and now the Putin regime, which is being “culturally insensitive” by hosting the Olympics in Sochi, according to Tamara Barsik, Director of Communications for the International Circassian Council.

Hobu, homonym

Baruto lõpetas, jätkab Kaido Höövelson

Mullu sügisel vigastustele viidates sumokarjääri lõpetanud Baruto ehk Kaido Höövelson jättis ametlikult "Barutoajastuga" hüvasti Tokyos toimunud patsilõikamise tseremoonial.

Laidoner sai mälestusmärgi

12. veebruaril möödus 130 aastat kindral Johan Laidoneri sünnist Viljandimaal Viiratsis. Viimsi vald ja Kindral Johan Laidoneri Selts korraldasid sünniaastapäeval Viimsi mõisas, ülemjuhataja kunagises kodus, mälestuspäeva. President Ilves avas mõisapargis Johan ja Maria Laidoneri mälestusmärgi, mille autorid on Juhan Kangilaski ja Maria Freimann ning mille pühitses peapiiskop Andres Põder.
