Over 300 Scouts Attend St. George's Day Camp and Parade
Over 300 boy, girl, and cub scouts gathered in the seaside town of Haapsalu last weekend to participate in the annual Jüripäeva (St. George's Day) camp, which wraps up with a parade and marks the start of the long-awaited outdoor activity season.
Estonian Canadian Among Jazzkaar Performers
Singer Kaili Kinnon from Toronto was among the many performers at this year's 30th annual Jazzkaar festival in Tallinn. The singer's mother is Imbi Medri Kinnon, whose father hailed from Saaremaa and her mother from Hiiumaa island.
Business Giant Sir Arvi Parbo Dies
Sir Arvi Hillar Parbo, who fled war-torn Estonia to become one of the giants of the Australian mining industry, has died in Melbourne at the age of 93. Sir Arvi is credited with playing a key role in establishing Australia's aluminium and nickel industries after joining Western Mining Corporation in 1956 and later becoming its managing director and chairman. "Sir Arvi Parbo will be fondly remembered as the most influential 20th century figure of the Australian resources industry," news.com.au writes.
