Estonian Youth Spoke Up on Global Diaspora Day

On November 28, Estonian Global Diaspora Day was celebrated with a live internet broadcast organised by Vabamu, the Museum of Occupations and Freedom in Tallinn.

Estonian Diaspora Day is celebrated as a moving holiday each year on the last Saturday of November.

The focus of this year's event was the activities of compatriot communities captured on 8 mm film, which illustrate how Estonian traditions and culture were preserved in farflung Estonian communities.

Communal Blood Sausage Making Day at NY Eesti Maja

On November 21, the New York Estonian House was abuzz with people coming, going and making traditional Christmas blood sausages or "white" pearl barley sausages.

All participants took precautions following  COVID-19 guidelines. Holiday sausages can be purchased at Eesti Maja until they last.

Tallink to Reduce Ferries in January

The ferry company Tallink Grupp will suspend the operation of its vessel Victoria I on the Tallinn-Helsinki and Tallinn-Stockholm-Riga-Stockholm-Tallinn and Tallinn-Helsinki routes as of  January 1, 2021 due to travel restrictions and the economic fallout resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The vessel has been operating on two temporary routes this autumn, providing additional cargo capacity between Estonia and Sweden, and as the only maritime transport route between Stockholm and Riga.

Cyber Attack Leaked Data of 9,000 People

In November, the Estonian Information System Authority (known as RIA) identified three separate attacks on state IT infrastructure with similar handwriting, resulting in the leak of the personal data of more than 9,000 people, including infectious disease information hacked from the Health Board's information system.
