Successful Arts Weekend at NY Estonian House Visited by Foreign Minister
Not wanting to wait any longer for the next New York Estonian Culture Days, which were cancelled due to the pandemic, executive board members of The Foundation for Estonian Arts and Letters, Inc. decided to organize a more compact event of shorter duration entitled "Apart, but together, creatively".
Musical performances, art exhibitions and workshops, film screenings and a late night dance party all featuring local Estonian talent, saw the spirit and atmosphere of New Yorgi Eesti Maja soar to familiar heights.
The next day a reception and concert was hosted by the Consulate General of Estonia in honour of visiting foreign minister Eva-Maria Liimets, who spoke at the event.
Ain Anger Took to the Stage of the Metropolitan Opera
The New York Metropolitan Opera, which has been closed for a year and a half, premiered "Boris Godunov" with Estonian opera singer, bass Ain Anger, originally from Kihelkonna on Saaremaa island making his Met debut in the role of the monk Pimen.
You can see Anger in "Boris Godunov" until October 17. This season he will also perform the role of Gremin in "Eugene Onegin".
British Tax Authority Fines Wealthiest Estonian Kristo Käärmann
The United Kingdom's HM Revenue & Customs has imposed a fine of £365,651 (€428,733) on Kristo Käärmann, co-founder of London-based fintech unicorn Wise.
The fine could jeopardize Käärmann's position as CEO of Wise, formerly Transferwise, British newspaper The Daily Telegraph reported.
