Louis Kahn's 120th Birthday Events in New York

 

On October 16, various events across New York celebrated 120 years since the birth of the American architect Louis Kahn, who was born in Kuressaare on Saaremaa island.

 

A reception honoring Kahn featured a photo exhibit “Kahn: Islander” by Estonian artist and photographer Arne Maasik, a slide show presentation of architectural photographs by Rein Vainküla and a continuous screening of the short documentary “A Walk on Louis Kahn's Native Island.”

 

The evening also featured a performance by a celebrated jazz musician Maria Faust.

 

The events took place in cooperation with the Estonian Consulate General of NY and the Louis Kahn Estonian Association and were part of the Archtober Festival program.

 

Archtober is the highly regarded annual New York Architecture and Design Festival held each October.

 

 

Center Party Won Municipal Elections

This year 588,867 Estonians voted in the local municipal elections: 313,280 in person and 275,587 voted online.

 

The Centre Party (Keskerakond) won and EKRE made huge gains.

 

Totals: Center Party won 24.4 percent and electoral alliances 24.3 percent of the vote.

 

They were followed by the Reform Party with 17.3 percent and EKRE with 13.2 percent of all the votes cast.

 

 

Surveys For Saaremaa Fixed Link To Start in Early 2022

 

The planning process for a fixed connection between the mainland and the islands of Muhu and Saaremaa is progressing as planned, and studies to find out the most suitable route will be launched at the beginning of next year, Minister of Public Administration Jaak Aab (Center) said on Thursday.

Public discussions on the designated spatial plan are underway at the Ministry of Finance in order to get feedback from local communities.
