Estonian's Groundbreaking Discovery at Stanford May Change Biology Textbooks

Mardo Kõivomägi, Basic Life Science Research Scientist at Stanford University and his colleagues published a noteworthy article in the October 15, 2021 issue of the magazine Science, which refutes the idea of cell proliferation.

 

"Apart from the fact that cell biology textbooks need to be corrected following this discovery, the discovery of this important mechanism may lead to better cancer treatment, and why not the Nobel Prize in Science," Marek Strandberg writes in Postimees.

 

 

Estonian Consulate General in San Francisco Hosts U.S. Honorary Consuls

On November 15 and 16, the Consulate General of Estonia in San Francisco hosted the annual meeting of honorary consuls of the United States.

 

The main guest at the event was Estonia's appointed Ambassador to the United States, Kristjan Prikk.

 

"This was the first major event of the Consulate General in San Francisco to thank local partners for their consistent and much appreciated support in opening the Consulate General, which has been significantly affected by the COVID pandemic," Consul General Ann Hänni said.

 

Estonia currently has 13 honorary consuls in the United States.

 

 

Reservists Erecting Temporary Barriers on Estonia's Eastern Border

Civilian-military cooperation between Estonia's Police and Border Guard Board and the Estonian Defense Forces in erecting temporary border barricades and obstructions as part of the military exercise "OKAS 21" has been good, the two ministers responsible said.

 

Both ministers were in southeast Estonia on November 22 to get an overview of the situation, at a time when migratory pressure has been exerted on the EU's eastern frontier by Belarusian president Aleksandr Lukashenko.

 

Work installing barbed wire was begun near Narva and in southeastern Estonia.
