ERR News - In search of fresh impetus, Olympic discus thrower Gerd Kanter announced on October 24, that he will part ways with his current trainer and team coach in November. "I have firmly decided to continue my athletic road for at least until 2016 and for this period as well I have set myself the maximum goals. I believe that some changes need to be made for the Olympic cycle that is beginning, and now after a successful season, it is a good time to make them.“ The gold medal winner thanked his team coach Raul Rebane for spotting his talent and for recruiting the right people, and his trainer Vesteinn Hafsteinsson, for taking him to the top of his game, both technically and physically. "The result has been a lot of medals [...] The dedication of both men has been admi-rable,“ said Kanter. "How and on what team I will continue my preparation is not clear yet. There is still time to  plan and negotiate,“ he said. The 33-year-old Tallinn native's 73.38-meter record is third longest discus throw of all time. He was ranked no. 1 in his sport from 2006-2010, the longest that a discus thrower has held that position. The current team has helped Kanter win eight champion-ship titles, including a a gold medal at the Beijing Olympics and a bronze at the London Olympics. "We will part as friends,“ Kanter said.
