The Estonian Ministry of Education has prepared a bill which would make all school lunches free, not just for primary school students as is currently the case.

If passed, schools, public and private, would each get a slice of the additional 3 million euros earmarked for school lunches, adding up to 78 cents per pupil per school day.

Many of the 22,500 high school students already enjoy free or heavily subsidized school lunches, paid for by local governments.

A similar bill created by the Center Party would set a minimum daily sum for each student at a euro per school day, but the government has said they do not support such a minimum cost.

The ministry's bill has been sent to other ministries for comments and will be voted on by the government and then the Parliament.
