My name is Demetra Vrenzakis. I grew up in New York and am of Greek Descent. I have been living in Greece for the past 29 years.

I visited Estonia for the first time this summer and was fortunate enough to attend the 26th (Overall) Song Festival held in Tallinn.

I do not speak Estonian. Most of the song lyrics were translated for me. But, in truth, no translation was necessary. The music, the voices of the choirs, the people that surrounded me singing... this all moved me deeply.

I was one with them. I felt their pain and I felt their hope. It was humbling. I was fortunate to have been in the company of proud Estonians of all ages singing in unison with deep love and respect for their country and for the people who sacrificed themselves before them in the name of Freedom.

I have wonderful memories of "my" beautiful Estonia. Hopefully, in 5 years, at the next Song Festival, I will be there again... singing.

The flame... it burns always.
