ERR News  – Estonian Public Broadcasting has rejected an offer from a Ukrainian TV channel to broadcast its news on ETV, preferring to use clips from the channel as part of its own news broadcasts.

TV5, which belongs to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, offered a number of foreign TV stations the opportunity to broadcast its own news shows, in fear of Russian TV channels painting a one-sided picture of the conflict in Ukraine.

ERR's board debated the offer on July 14, and decided to use Russian-language clips and interviews from Poroshenko's channel instead of full on news shows.

“We do not doubt TV5's autonomy, but it is not in line with journalistic independence to show one nation's news programs without explanations or comments from the other party,” ERR board member Ainar Ruussaar said.

The Lithuanian public broadcasting company has accepted the offer.
