President Konstantin Päts’s Former Grave In Russia Gets A Plaque
The initial resting place of President Konstantin Päts in Burashevo, near Tver, Russia, was marked with a plaque this month, bringing the head of state's burial site in line with requirements.
The memorial plaque was made in Estonia and funded by donations. The installation of the plaque was organized by the former chairman of Burashevo village council, Nikolai Pankratyev, said the Estonian-side organizer of the efforts to mark the gravesite, Henn Latt, in Postimees.
Latt said the goal had been to mark the gravesite before the 24th anniversary of his reinterment in Estonia, which is today.
Like most of the republican-era elite, Päts was deported and made a prisoner, forced to endure treatment at psychiatric hospitals, including the one in Burashevo, where he died in 1956.
