The year 2014 marks the 50th Anniversary of The Estonian Archives in the United States, Inc. (EAUS). It is only befitting that this unique book reaches a wider English speaking audience. The plight of refugees from many nations embroiled in too many wars is still an unfortunate fact.

"DP Chronicle" is an account of Estonian refugees during and following WWII. Their indomitable spirit and stubborn perseverance carried them through the Displaced Persons Camps. Once it became clear that their return home was not possible, many were able to lay a foundation for a new life in the United States of America.

Ferdinand Kool had already begun to collect information regarding the DP Camps in Germany. In 1964 ERKÜ - The Estonian National Committee in New York entrusted 50 existing folders to F. Kool to sort and put in order as their curator/guardian. The following years became F. Kool's life's work in that he constantly sought additional clarifying information of all kinds from Estonian organizations and groups scattered throughout USA.

In 1977 this collection was transferred to the present EAUS Inc. building where work on it and additions to it continue to this day. Just like the EAUS Inc. would not exist without the countless hours of a multitude of volunteers, this English version was made possible by a  collaborative effort.

The translator – Aime Martinson Andra worked, for a nominal reimbursement. She was sustained by help and guidance from her son, Tenno Andra and sister Marje Martinson Käbin.

Tiina Kuuskvere Rebane contributed as an editor to prepare the pages for publication.

Constance M. Coffin, USA-born native, donated hours to verify American English usage.

Maret Maiste Põldmäe contributed the beautiful and evokative cover design.

Indrek Ojamaa organized the edition into a print ready format.

We are most grateful to each and everyone who has contributed to this effort.

The book signing will take place at New York Estonian House on December 6, 2014 during the Christmas Bazar
