ERR News - The US Army in Europe will soon send a team to scout locations in eastern Europe, including the Baltics, for locations to store tanks and other military equipment.

“Maybe it’s a company, maybe it’s a whole battalion, we don’t know yet until we do the survey,” Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, the head of Allied Land Command, told Starts and Stripes.

This year the US army could bring in a heavy brigade of around 3,000 soldiers to Europe. “The big question for us right now is ‘where are they going to go?

We really want to put some in southeastern Europe, some in the Baltics, some in Poland. Those countries want them bad — an obvious reason, they’re a deterrent aspect.” Hodges said.

The survey team will seek locations to store enough heavy equipment to make it easier for a brigade to move in and out of Europe for training missions.

The US troops have had a presence in Estonia since April 2014. About 150 troops are based in Tapa. Seven Bradley infantry fighting vehicles have also been based there.
