Estonia To Support Ukrainian Refugees With 200,000 Euros
Foreign Minister Keit Pentus-Rosimannus signs the decision to support refugees from Eastern Ukraine through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) with an aid worth 200,000 euros.
According to United Nations' Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), there are over a million internally displaced people in Ukraine who have had to leave their homes and flee. Majority of those are women, children, and elderly.
"Unfortunately, the military conflict in Ukraine continues and the number of refugees is increasing. Therefore it is important that we support the aid organizations that are active in Ukraine," Pentus-Rosimannus said.
UNICEF aids conflict-affected children mainly with clean water and sanitation, as well as psychological help. UNCHR is leading organization for providing shelters and looking after primary needs of refugees.
Estonian Foreign Ministry supported the organizations with 150,000 and 50,000 euros respectively.
Since the start of Ukraine conflict, Estonia has supported the Ukrainian refugees with 875,000 euros in total.
