On September 11, 2001, almost 3000 innocent individuals lost their lives in the terrorist attack against the New York Trade Center and the Pentagon in Washington DC. This number included the crews and passengers of the four high jacked commercial airliners used in the execution of this evil deed.

The following poem was written a few days after this event in remembrance of those who perished at the World Trade Center.

LIE STILL MY FRIEND

Fred Ise

Lie still my friend – in morning’s early hour
fate struck you down and never told you why,
when high above that mighty city tower
was torn apart by evil in the sky.

Lie still my friend, I see the desperation,
the pain and fear deep in your pleading eyes:
“O God, o God, You are my sole salvation,
if that’s Your will, please do not let me die!”

Lie still my friend, an angel is approaching
to take your soul to God’s divine embrace,
where evil deeds and hate can never touch you,
where you shall rest in love’s eternal peace.
