ERR NEWS - The new ambassador to Washington says the Obama administration is about more than rhetoric in terms of Estonia's national security. Both Marina Kaljurand and ambassador to NATO Lauri Lepik, fresh from a conference of Estonian foreign service leaders in Tallinn last week, told ETV that the US takes a genuine interest in Estonia. Estonia and the US see security "astonishingly" similarly, say the envoys.

On August 23, 2012 about 50 people gathered for a remembrance ceremony to commemorate the victims of Soviet communist and Nazi regimes, on the anniversary of the 1939 signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, (International Black Ribbon Day). H.E. Ambassador Marina Kaljurand along with the Embassy staff attended the remembrance ceremony at the Victims of Communism Memorial in Washington, DC.

They observed various ranges of area, from one square millimeter to one hectare.

National carrier Estonian Air has released its economic results for the first six months of 2012, which indicate the company made a 14.9 million euro loss, reported uudised.err.ee. The airline, which has at various times pledged to become profitable as early as this year but admitted last month that it was far off that pace, had been under pressure to disclose an exact figure.

The Estonian Archives in the United States has been selec-ted to receive the Estonian American National Council’s award for “Organizational Excellence” at EANC’s 60th anniversary gala on September 29, 2012.    The Archives, located in Lakewood, New Jersey, and now also with some collections at the University of Minnesota’s Immigration Research Center, houses books, documents, and other materials about the activities of individuals and Estonian American organizations from 1920 to the present. The non-profit organization is staffed entirely by volunteers. Enda-Mai Michelson-Holland is the current director and will accept the award.
