The time is still ripe for constituent action on legislation to support Ukraine and Baltic security. Several developments have occurred since the Estonian American National Council’s last call to action for the region.

The Senate is working on a new bipartisan bill to provide military support to Ukraine and impose sanctions on Russia for its aggression toward Ukraine.

 

This new compromise bill is intended to reconcile partisan differences in two earlier bills that did not move forward in the legislative process.

M/S Estonia Disaster TV Series Finland's Priciest Ever

This spring, Finland, Sweden, Estonia and Belgium will start shooting the TV series "Estonia", billed as the priciest drama series to date in Finland.

 

The 8-part series will depict the Baltic Sea ferry's tragic sinking, rescue operations and ensuing investigation.

Support for Kaja Kallas as prime minister has fallen sharply since December and is likely due to the handling of the energy price crisis, a survey by newspaper Eesti Päevaleht shows.

Kallas' support is now below EKRE and Eesti 200, the results show.

 

Only 10 percent of respondents said they preferred to see her as the leader of the coalition, a drop of 6 percent compared to December.

The Integration Foundation announced a call for proposals for supporting foreign Estonian cultural society projects and events which help preserve the Estonian language and culture in the world and help Estonians living abroad retain their connections with Estonia. Applications can be submitted until February 10 (included).

‘The aim of the grant is to support the activities of the Estonian cultural societies abroad, mediation of Estonian cultural events, and the cohesion of the Estonian communities worldwide with Estonia,’ said Kaire Cocker, Head of Compatriots Service at Integration Foundation.

The Boston Estonian Society in cooperation with the Boston Baltic Film Festival committee is excited to announce that the Boston Baltic Film Festival is taking place again, bringing new Baltic films to the big screen at the Emerson Paramount Center in Boston.

The festival offers both in-person and virtual viewing of three films from each of the Baltic countries.

On our way to Honiara on the Constellation in 1979, we stopped at Shell Island.

 

There is a grouping of three small islands, called "The three sisters", and this is one of them.

 

It may be named thus because of the profusion of shells that are washed ashore there, more so than on any other island that I have visited.
