We will soon mark the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II (WWII). That traumatic period of history continues to weigh heavily on several countries even now, including Estonia.
The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact (MRP) – signed between communist Russia and Nazi Germany in 1939 – paved the way for WWII. We direct your attention to the fact that the Pact also ultimately resulted in numerous coerced and forcible territorial changes for a number of states and peoples of Europe.

University Of Tartu's New Delta Center Opened
The University of Tartu Delta Center, one of the most modern centers for digital technology, analytics and economic ideas in the Nordics, officially opened its doors at noon on January 29th.
The complex consists of two buildings — an academic and research building and an entrepreneurship building — and will bring together more than 3,000 students, lecturers, researchers and development employees from different companies.
Speaking at the opening of the new center, Minister of Education and Research Mailis Reps (Center) said that the construction of the new complex was spurred by the rapid development of the IT field, adding that it is very important that the number of graduates increase and that IT knowledge increasingly reaches other fields as well going forward, according to a ministry press release.

"Variety" Names Estonian Director Among Those to Watch in 2020
"Variety" magazine has unveiled its sixth edition of ten Europeans to watch, "spotlighting ten rising talents from across the continent, who are poised for breakthroughs in 2020". The selection includes emerging actors, directors, writers and producers, with Estonian filmmaker Tanel Toom among them.
Toom directed and wrote the Oscar shortlisted film “Truth and Justice.”

Epp Sonin's Musical Journey in Song and Story
Epp-Karike Sonin.
Epp-Karike Sonin always amazes, inspires and delights us — especially on January 11 when she beautifully performed at the dedication of the "Epp Sonin Music Room" at the Follen Church in Lexington, Massachusetts.
Her lovely lyric soprano captivated everyone. The spacious room, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and cathedral ceiling, was filled to capacity. The overflow audience watched the program being streamed to monitors to other church function rooms.

Legislative Update Going Into 2020
As one of its main missions, the Estonian American National Council (EANC) tracks legislation pertaining to Estonia, the Baltic nations, and the broader central and east European region, and advocates for its support from Members of Congress in mee-tings and events with lawmakers and their staff on Capitol Hill.
EANC works with the Joint Baltic American National Committee (JBANC) and our Central and East European Coalition (CEEC) partner organizations to choose the bills and resolutions most important to the region and coordinate our messages and resources to have the strongest impact possible.
