Member of the European Parliament Urmas Paet (Reform) said on February 17, that Estonia should introduce legislation to allow double citizenship by birth. Double citizenship is allowed in 15 EU member states, and seven more allow a naturalized citizen to keep their original nationality under certain conditions.

meeliEstonian artist’s, MEELI KÕIVA’s (aka Mery Crystal Ra), REACTIVE RIVER was selected as one of the world`s top 25 light art projects on January 22, 2016 by CODA magazine “25 PROJECTS ILLUMINATING OUR WORLD”. The art work is located in the main building of the European Parliament, Brussels, Belgium. Mery Crystal Ra was also the only artist from Europe to be invited to participate at the closing ceremony of the International Light Year by UNESCO in Mérida, Mexico on February 4-6, 2016

By Tony Capaccio (Bloomberg) The Defense budget request of approximately $583 billion will contain between $3 to $5 billion for Europe-based initiatives, up from $789 million requested for this year, according to two defense officials.

Estonian American National Council representatives joined Baltic colleagues for a briefing from the State Department’s Baltic team on Friday, February 19. The Director of Nordic and Baltic Affairs, Nathaniel Dean, and desk officers for Estonia, Kathleen Bresnahan, and Lithuania, Carol Werner, shared their insights on policy and current and upcoming events focused on U.S.-Baltic cooperation.
