kaido oleKaido Ole

Estonian artist Kaido Ole is represented in a new exhibition titled “100 Painters of Tomorrow”, which opened at the One Art Space gallery in New York.

The exhibit will move to London at the end of the month with a catalog also due out.

The exhibit is geared at surveying largely unknown talent.

Ole, 51, said he is ecstatic to have been chosen.

He said exhibitions are temporary while the catalog can be picked up any time. He and the other 99 painters were chosen out of 4,300.

“Similar world-wide parade exhibits, which have been co-organized by top curators and critics, are often important platforms for uncovering new artists.

Ole's success definitely helps to introduce Estonia's contemporary art to the world.

The year 2014 marks the 50th Anniversary of The Estonian Archives in the United States, Inc. (EAUS). It is only befitting that this unique book reaches a wider English speaking audience. The plight of refugees from many nations embroiled in too many wars is still an unfortunate fact.

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that it has uncovered a financial scam by which more than 1 billion rubles (19.1 million euros) was illegally transferred to banks in Estonia and Latvia.

According to the restructuring plan that will be submitted to the European Commission on Friday, Infortar, which is a joint owner of the Estonian shipping company Tallink, is also set to become the majority shareholder of Estonian Air.

The initial resting place of President Konstantin Päts in Burashevo, near Tver, Russia, was marked with a plaque this month, bringing the head of state's burial site in line with requirements.

university rectorAndres Keevallik

The head of the Tallinn University of Technology, Andres Keevallik, crashed his car through a shop window late on October 28, while driving under the influence, saying afterwards that he will resign his post.

Margus Leivo, responsible for administrative affairs at the university, said Keevallik was returning from an embassy reception.

“You can not write off a person for one mistake and cancel out his previous deeds,” Leivo said, adding that the university, one of the top three in Estonia, is in a period of transition and was due to hold rector elections in the near future in any case.

Keevallik was the rector of the university between 2000-05, before returning to the post in 2010.
