Estonian-U.S. Webinar on Sustainable Cooperation Opportunities in the Arctic


On April 26, a joint virtual seminar on sustainable development in the Arctic was held between the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the U.S. think tank's Wilson Center's Polar Institute.

Kaitlyn Vesterstein has skied on the University of Utah ski team for 4 years and won championship as team member 4 times.

 

Kaitlyn Vesterstein skied to 12th place overall at the National Alpine Combined Ski Championships that were held at Aspen, Colorado, on April 17th and 18th, 2021.

NATO fighter jets based in Estonia, Lithuania and Poland tracked and intercepted Russian fighters, bombers and surveillance aircraft over the Baltic Sea on Tuesday (April 20).


Two Russian Tu-160 Blackjack bombers, an Su-27 and Su-35 fighter aircraft flew over the Baltic Sea from mainland Russia, where they operated with a Russian A-50 Mainstay airborne warning and control plane that was also escorted by fighters.

Mayor of the City of Miami Beach, Dan Gelber said: “Major kudos to internatinal champion swimmer Merle Liivand on setting a world record ahead of Earth Day with her 30 kilometer monofin “mermaid” swim around the City of Miami Beach today!


She deserves every accolade for her feat, which she did to raise awareness about the need to protect our oceans and expand on sustainability efforts, like our Plastic Free MB program.

Kind, soft-spoken, thoughtful, and loved her family fiercely

 

Liina Mai (Sildver) Broms was born in Tartu, Estonia, on July 24, 1944, to Lydia (Lõhmussaar) and Egon Gerhard Sildver.


At only one month old, she was forced to flee her homeland with her mother and grandmothers, due to the Soviet invasion and World War II.

Foundation for Estonian Arts and Letters Scholarships Announced


In early 2021, the Foundation for Estonian Arts and Letters, Inc. announced a competition to support the artistic endeavors of young people of Estonian heritage living in the U.S.

 

This is the first time such a scholarship has been awarded by the foundation, and its aim is to encourage young artists, as well as to share news of their successes with the community.

The Venice Institute of Contemporary Art (ViCA) is proud to announce the Official Selections for the 8th Annual Fine Arts Film Festival (FAFF), coming up on June 8-14, 2021 on Vimeo. FAFF – the world’s largest art film festival – will present 102 films from 48 countries represented across the globe.

 

Over half of the films were directed or produced by women, and POC directed almost a third of them.


One of the headliners is “Acting: The First Six Lessons,” directed by Emily Bridges, which Premieres at FAFF.

Helju Rossmann Schneider was born April 11,1935 at home on the family farm in Vändra.

 

She and her family fled Estonia on Sept 30, 1944 on a ship from Kuressaare.

 

Having survived the war with family intact, she lived in DP camps for the next 5 years, the last of which was Oldenburg.
