President Karis at the UN Security Council: Climate Change Poses New Security Challenges
"We must prevent the inevitable effects of climate change from destabilizing countries and entire regions, with the risk of new or escalating existing armed conflicts,"
President Alar Karis said on December 9 at a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council on peace and security in the context of climate change.
President Alar Karis is in New York from December 7th to 10th.

“Diamonds of the First Snow” Concert at the New York Estonian House

“Diamonds of the First Snow” was the first of a series of pop-jazz concerts organized by the Finlandia Foundation New York Metropolitan Chapter.
This year the concert took place at the historic New York Estonian House, featuring four Finnish singers based in New York City – Johanna Telander, Jonna, Eeppi Ursin, and Petra Jasmiina.

The CD album by the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Kaspars Putniņš entitled "Schnittke: Choir Concerto; Three Sacred Hymns; Pärt: Seven Magnificat-Antiphons" has been nominated for the 64th Grammy Awards in the category of the best choral performance.

Winter Wonderland at Valaste Waterfall

Cold temperatures and gusts of wind from the sea have once again created a magnificent spectacle at the Valaste Waterfall in Ida-Viru County.
The waterfall is situated in the Toila parish in Ida-Viru County and is not only the highest waterfall in Estonia, but the highest in all of the Baltic states.

Kontaveit: My Dream Is to Win a Grand Slam
Fresh off a spectacular performance to cap off the season, Estonian tennis player Anett Kontaveit held a press conference on November 22, during which she spoke to reporters about her season, when she became the first Estonian ever to be ranked in the world top-10.
Kontaveit ended the season winning 29 of her last 33 matches, including a 12-match winning streak, which saw her win a tournaments in Moscow, Russia and Romania.
She also won tournaments in Cleveland and Ostrava earlier in the season.

In memoriam Külli K. Verravas
1942 - 2021
Külli (Köhler) Verravas, 78, of Glastonbury, CT passed away peacefully on November 4, 2021.
Born in Viljandi, Estonia, on December 8, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Feliks-Peeter Köhler, Aino Ibrus Lind and stepfather, Hindrek Lind.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jack, who recently passed in April, after 55 years of marriage.
