The Maryland Estonia Exchange Council (MEEC), which facilitates sister state and sister city relationships between Maryland and Estonia, has ramped up its activities this fall with COVID restrictions easing.


Estonia’s envoy to the U.S., Ambassador Kristjan Prikk, is showing his support for the organization and the burgeoning ties it has helped to create.  

Ambassador Prikk arrived at his post in Washington in May of this year.

Members of the San Francisco Estonian Community Choir are very happy to begin meeting together again in person, under the direction of Crista Berryessa. Practices are currently being held outdoors in Los Altos, and will also be held indoors in San Francisco as soon as COVID safety allows.

Interest in Enefit Green Shares Crashes Nasdaq Website

On October 21, trading in shares of Enefit Green, the renewable subsidiary of state-owned energy group Eesti Energia, was initiated on the Tallinn stock exchange. Large public interest in the shares crashed the Nasdaq Baltic website.



Finnish Singer Eeppi Ursin releases two new songs from an upcoming album, and will be performing at the New York Estonian House on November 19th.

New York-based Finnish-born singer-songwriter Eeppi Ursin recently released her first single “Down” from an upcoming pop album “Speechless” with a new music video, directed by  award-winning filmmaker and documentary director Erika Haavisto, featuring New York City’s urban landscape and  exploring the urban struggles of living in the concrete jungle.

The Estonian Amateur Athletic Association (Eesti Spordiliit USAs) conducted its annual fall golf gathering at Rob Ashford's Shepherd Hills golf course on Oct 9th.

10 players turned out to enjoy perfect golf weather for a 2-man team format event.

The book I have written, “The Estonian Sea Captain” on the adventurous life of my father, Captain Evald Jakobson, has now been published both in Estonian and English.

The Estonian version, published by Hea Lugu, was launched in Tallinn in the beginning of September at the Paks Margareeta maritime museum – with a second smaller launch in Pärnu, my father’s home town, at the Yacht Club.


The English version was also published in the beginning of September with a launch planned in London early next year.

Louis Kahn's 120th Birthday Events in New York


On October 16, various events across New York celebrated 120 years since the birth of the American architect Louis Kahn, who was born in Kuressaare on Saaremaa island.


A reception honoring Kahn featured a photo exhibit “Kahn: Islander” by Estonian artist and photographer Arne Maasik, a slide show presentation of architectural photographs by Rein Vainküla and a continuous screening of the short documentary “A Walk on Louis Kahn's Native Island.”

The Temple of Dendur is the setting for a haunting world premiere a cappella choral work, O Holy Father Nicholas, from the beloved Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, composed to celebrate the reopening of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, destroyed on 9/11. The Schola Cantorum choir are joined by Grammy Award-winning Experiential Orchestra in an evening of masterpieces composed over his 7 decade career.
